2012 Premier Rio caught testing

Premier is making a lot of news in recent days. The company fist announced the sourcing of the 1.3 Multijet engine which will help Premier sell the compact SUV in the BS4 cities. Premier had also announced that the Rio will get a facelift.

Thanks to our friends at Motorbeam who have caught the Rio testing in on Dehu Road in Pune.

The Rio facelift was caught testing in Pune a few months which showed clear images of new SUV.

The test on mule had its front masked with tapes, but one can get a glimpse of the new clear lens headlamps. The rear had  ABS badge which indicates that the Rio will get a ABS variant soon.

The company has also launched the Rio in a petrol engine option. The Rio petrol gets an 1173cc, 4 cylinder naturally aspirated engine. It has a power output 76.6 Ps (56.3 kW) @ 5800 rpm and torque of 103.9 Nm @ 3500 – 4000 rpm.

Premier has managed to sell just 2,000 Rios since its launch, which is miniscule in the annual SUV market of over 3-4 lakh units. A new BS4 engine, new upgrades to interiors and a fresh face should help the company to sell more 1000 units per month.

Premier has entered into a formal component supply agreement with Zotye Auto of China to source 15,000 CKD kits per annum for Rio. These kits are assembled at the company’s plant in Chinchwad, Pune.
