2014 BMW X5 Spied, India launch in 2015

There was speculation that the German luxury car maker is secretly working on an all new BMW X5 but there was no confirmation on it thus far.  But thanks to our friends at Worldcarfans, we can now confirm  that BMW is indeed planning a new X5. Seen in the pictures is one of the first prototypes of the car which was spotted testing in Germany. The car is highly camouflaged suggesting that it is in its initial stages of testing. BMW is known for testing its cars thoroughly over a long period of time before launching it and we expect the same to happen with the new X5.

According to reports, the new generation X5 will ride on a new architecture that is known in-house as “X for All” . This architecture is likely to carried over to the other BMW X series cars too.  Other important change will be light weight construction which will enable the new X5 to shed as much as 150 kgs, making it lighter than its predecessor by a decent margin.

The car will be longer and wider than its predecessor but is likely to be marginally lower. The car will sport adjustable suspension along with adjustable ride height to increase or decrease the ground clearance. As seen in the pictures the design of the X5 is not ground breaking and is on similar lines to the present X5. We don’t have any insight on the interiors of the car and It will be too premature to comment on it but it is safe to assume that there will be an improvement in quality and addition of lots of high tech features.

Power options will include a frugal hybrid as well as a twin-turbo 4.4-litre V8 motor. Considering that there is quite some time for the launch of the new X5, It is difficult to predict whether these engine will make to India or no but there are reports that a new 2.0 litre diesel engine which produces 245 Bhp is being developed by BMW and this could be one of the engines doing duty on the new X5 when it is launched in India. The new X5 is expected to be revealed next year but will only be launched in 2014.
