BITs Pilani Greasemonkeys, only team from Goa at SAE Baja

At BITS Pilani K K Birla Goa Campus, a group of 20 students are aspiring to become top-class engineers, as they face numerous challenges to produce and manufacture an All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV) of their own accord.

This team aspires to mimic real world engineering design projects and the challenges associated with them in the field of ATVs by learning a plethora of things which includes financing, designing, and manufacturing our own car. They are a team of 25 with a multitude of talents and specializations.

The objective of their team is to acquire the skills required for designing and fabricating an All-Terrain Vehicle that meets the legislation, is safe, comfortable, inexpensive and is aesthetically appealing. They look forward to inspire people with their achievements, and to narrow the gap between engineering students and real-world industries.

Presently, they’re working for the SAE Baja competition, which is an intercollegiate design competition run by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE). The goal in Baja SAE racing is to design, market, build and race off-road vehicles that can withstand the harshest elements of rough terrain. There are multiple dynamic events, which include hill climbs, sled pulls, manoeuvrability events, rock crawls, and suspension & traction events.

The Greasemonkeys have been moving to the final round for two consecutive years now, and are now looking to win it all this year.

They are the only team from the state of Goa to have achieved these remarkable feats, and have been immensely efficient in the pace at which they’ve been moving towards a greater chance of competing with the world’s best teams.

They’ve successfully manufactured three vehicles until now, when no other team from the entire Goan field has managed to produce even one. This speaks volumes about the magnitude of scientific enthusiasm shown by the students at SAE Baja, BITS Goa. The Greasemonkeys are thrilled at the prospect of knowledge, and the avenue of scientific progress, both intrinsic and extrinsic.

They’re happy to say that they have passed the virtual round, and have progressed to the final round in the competition.

The team is running a crowdfunding campaign to offer you a chance to contribute to the wellness of the scientific progress of the country, and to secure sufficient funding to render their production economical. For any further details contact –
