Chevrolet is all going to enter the LCV space with the lunch of the new products lined up in 2012. General Motors which has an alliance with Chinese company Wuling, will launch the Sunshine In India.
The Sunshine MPV will be pitted directly against the Eeco MPV and the Tata Venture. The high end variant will compete with the Mahindra Xylo.
The new MPV will be manufactured at the Halol plant in Gujarat and may be powered by a 1.3 litre diesel engine sourced from Fiat. Chevrolet also makes the Tavera MPV, Aveo twins, Cruze sedan at the Halol plant.
GM and the two other companies have a three-way joint venture in China known as SAIC-GM-Wuling Automobile Co. They are also looking beyond bringing only commercial vehicles to India through their partnership.
SAIC-GM-Wuling sells both commercial and passenger vehicles, including Wuling brand minivans, Wuling brand mini-trucks and the GM Chevrolet Spark mini-car in China.
