Chevy Spark facelift launched

Chevrolet’s Sail U-VA will come into fruition on November, before that the car maker has come into the scenes for yet another launch. This time a facelifted model has been introduced for the much needed entry level small car segment. Since the arrival of revived Alto 800, other manufacturers are constantly exploring ways to stack their product toe-to-toe with the ever loved Maruti.

Chevy’s long-running Spark hatchback is what the buzz is all about. It has taken quite a while since GM decided to launch this refreshed model as the old one is said to be discontinued pretty soon.

GM India has taken covers off its updated Spark today in New Delhi. The little hatchback has received minor treatments on the inside. Not a tough task if you were to scout the difference from the front.

“The all-new Spark will build on the success of its predecessors and stand out against the competition in India’s rapidly growing small car market. The introduction of the all-new Spark reinforces GM’s commitment to continually roll out new and upgraded products that exceed the expectations of car buyers nationwide,” said GM India President & Managing Director Lowell Paddock.

At last, Spark gets the dual-port honeycomb family grille with chrome touches. On the front side, the ‘quotation style’ head lamps project jewel effect lighting at night. There is a new streamlined, ‘wing inspired’ instrument cluster as well which ensures increased convenience while driving. The bumpers at front and rear are re-profiled along with updated fog lamps.

To bring about appeal and enhance premium feel, the new spark gets an interior with dual-tone shade and different fabric on the seat. In terms of updates to the infotainment system, a double-DIN audio with USB and Bluetooth have also been fitted and all these changes were done at the GM’s Bangalore unit.

This entry level small car also features Power Windows which is something new for its segment. The cars will be available in six body colors which include Sandrift Grey, Linen Beige, Caviar Black, Velvet Red, Misty Lake and Summit White.

The new 2012 Chevy Spark is powered by 1.0L petrol engine that delivers a max power of 63 PS at 5,400 rpm and a peak torque of 90.3 Nm at 4,200 rpm. This engine delivers an ARAI certified fuel economy of 18 Kmpl, comparably less to its rivals.

It also features sequential injection technology for no backfiring during shifting from petrol to LPG or vice versa. New Chevrolet Spark comes with a 3 years / 100,000 km manufacturer’s standard warranty. Besides that, customers have other options as well, an add-on service maintenance package, the Chevrolet Promise Cost of Ownership Program, provides free maintenance for three years or 45,000 km (whichever comes first).

The facelifted Spark is available now in five different variants including a normal petrol version as well as LPG options in different levels of trim. The base variant costs 10,000 bucks more than its predecessor with the top-end LPG can be bought for Rs. 4.10 lakh.
