Great Wall, ICML to form JV, launch new vehicles

ICML is readying its new innings in India. The company which launched had launched the Rhino MUV a couple of years back is now looking at the Indian market more seriously.

Autocar reader, Vinod spotted the Great Wall Motors’ Haval H5 SUV testing in Chandigarh. ICML will launch this new SUV which will take on the likes of Force One, Mahindra XUV and Tata Safari Storme.

The Haval H5 is also referred to in some markets as the X240 and sold as a five or a seven-seater vehicle with either manual or automatic gearbox. The H5 is 4649mm long, 1810mm wide and 1735mm tall and available in both 4X2 and 4X4 versions.

Globally, The H5 is equipped with a 2.4-litre petrol engine choice that churns out 134bhp and 20.3kgm of torque and a 2.5-litre diesel with 107bhp and 30.5kgm of torque. The Indian market may get the new G-ONE Series diesel engine which currently does the duty on the Rhino and is also now strapped on the Chevrolet Tavera.

The engine power may be bumped to 140 Ps to make it more competitive and a decent Torque of 300Nm plus.

Seems like to capture the fast growing Indian market, the auto makers are resorting to the Chinese which are also looking to enter the Indian market.
