Honda stops production of Brio in India

Honda Siel Cars India has stopped manufacturing the Brio hatchback due to shortage of parts from Thailand, caused by floods in the Southeast Asian country.

Honda India sources some electronic and under-body car parts from Thailand and its Greater Noida facility has an annual production capacity of 100,000 cars. The company has run out of parts for the Brio and have had to suspend production of the model in this month.

“The situation is much worse than November, our production this month will be much lower than last month,” senior vice president for marketing and sales Jnaneswar Sen said.

“We are trying to arrange sourcing parts from the same vendors in other countries but our key three volume models-Jazz, Brio and the City-continue to be quite low.”

Bro small is Honda’s attempt to enter the competitive small car segment in India. Honda sold only 666 units in November 2011.
