Nissan announces name of new suv – ‘Terrano’ based on Duster platform

Nissan announced the name of its new premium SUV, Nissan Terrano and revealed a sketch of the new model, which is planned to launch in the 2013 financial year. Terrano will be produced at Nissan’s Oragadam Plant alongside the premium hatchback Micra, Sunny sedan and Evalia urban class utility vehicle, expanding Nissan’s locally-built model range to four.

The Terrano will be based on the Renault Duster platform and will be positioned slightly higher than the Duster in terms of pricing and equipment. Under the hood the Terrano will offer the same engine options which include a 1.6 petrol and 1.5 diesel engine o
ptions mated to 5 speed and 6 speed gear box respectively.

President and CEO of Nissan Motor India Pvt. Ltd, Kenichiro Yomura, said Terrano will play a key role in increasing sales within the Indian market: “I am delighted to reveal both the name and the very first image of what will be a very important model for Nissan.” “You can see from the sketch that Terrano has a bold and distinctive design that I am confident will appeal to our growing customer base in India, as will its driving performance and range of other features that will be revealed at a later date.”
