Tata Aria low cost variant spied, will Tata get it right this time?

The Aria crossover by Tata Motors so far the best product in terms of features, fit & finish and technology launched by the company. Launched in 2010, Tata expected the Aria to a success considering the huge feature list, but the price played a spoil sport and the Aria was limited to only a few buyers.

When launched, the Aria crossover was available only in 4×4 variants which had a starting price of Rs. 13 lakhs plus. Then in August 2011 the company launched the 4×2 variant which was caught testing by GoaOnWheels on the Pune-Bangalore highway. (Tata Aria caught testing). The 4×2 variant was launched at Rs. 11.61 lakh onwards in three variants: Prestige, Pleasure and Pure.

Thanks to our friends at ICB who have caught the Aria low cost variant testing at the Tata Motors Pune plant. The low cost variant comes with steel wheels. All luxury and saefty features like ESP, premium leather upholstery, Steering mounted phone and music controls and Automatic climate control will not be offered on this variant to keep costs low.

The low cost Aria will be available in the 4×2 option only and pricing will decide its future success. Tata may look at a Rs. 10 sticker price to price it below the XUV500 which is commanding a waiting period of 2-3 months.

Tata is also working on the Aria with Automatic gear box and had showcased at the 2012 Auto Expo.
