Volkswagen has shown its intention to join the growing compact SUV segment with the unveiling of a rugged looking concept car that hints towards a future production model the upcoming Sao Paulo motor show in Brazil. The company has called it the Taigun, keeping the “T” tradition followed by Touareg & Tiguan.
The Taigun compact SUV will share its underpinning with the UP! Compact hatch and is positioned and priced below the popular Tiguan SUV which is also likely to be launched in India. The Taigun will be previewed at the Sao Paulo motor show in Brazil and is mostly aimed at the emerging market which has seen an array of models being launched in this segment.
The Taigun will lock its horns with the Ford EcoSport and the upcoming compact SUV’s from Chevrolet ad Honda. Based around a stretched version of Volkswagen’s NSF (New Small Family) platform structure found beneath the entry-level Up city car, the Taigun SUV is designed to be a global model and will not be restricted to emerging markets only.
