Yamaha to launch new YZF-R1 in India

Japanese two-wheeler firm Yamaha it will introduce a new version of its super-bike YZF-R1 in the country next year, and a range of other models and variants from its stable to strengthen its position in India.

The bike will be a bit more expensive than the existing YZF-R1, but will have the same 998cc engine,” India Yamaha Motor National Business Head Pankaj Dubey said. The existing YZF-R1, which was launched in 2007, comes at Rs. 10.5 lakh.

The next generation R1 model, which sports a 998 cc, liquid-cooled, 16-valve (titanium valves), DOHC, in-line four-cylinder engine with ‘crossplane’ style crankshaft, will arrive on Indian shores by next year. The company claims it’s the first motorcycle in the world with a cross-plane crankshaft. Even though the company officials have confirmed the news, they have refused to put any timeline and the estimated price of the model.
