Bharatiya Vigyan Expo opens in Goa, displays DRDO innovations

The Government of Goa in association with Vijnana Bharati and Goa University hosted the 4th edition of the Bharatiya Vigyan Sammelan & Expo from February 6 till February 8 at Kala Academy Football ground- Campal, Panaji.

The Bhartiya Vigyan Sammelan (BVS) is a platform to bring together all the above who contribute to science. The Bhartiya Vigyan Sammelan is a flagship program of Vijnana Bharati.

The event was previously held in Bhopal and for the first time as a special initiative, the Government of Goa has partnered with Vijnana Bharati to host this prestigious event in Goa, with the view to highlight the various innovations in science and technology in service of mankind.

Governor Mirdula Sinha, inaugurated the expo on February 5 at 10.30 a.m. at the Football ground- Campal, Panaji. The key participants of the expo are—DRDO, ISRO, KVK, HAL, STPI, DST,CSIR.

Special attractions are- Akash, Brahmos missile, ARJUN Battletank, BHARANI – ASHLESHA 3D radars, Bomb Disposal Robot, Mangalyan – Chandrayan Models, PSLV- GSLV launch vehicles, climbing wheel chair and many more.

The theme is meant to highlight the developments that make Indian common person’s life a bit easier through application of science and technology. BVS – 2015 hopes to bring together people who have to their credit such achievement, to disseminate information about such achievements, and to provide a platform for discussing research with potential for applications in the service of mankind.

Keeping in line with the notion ‘Survival of the fittest’, the Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO) has designed a number of products for the protection and survival of the defence forces. These products wereon display at the Bhartiya Vigyan Expo and range from nuclear, biological, chemical suits (NBC), and blast protection suits to camouflage technology and bullet proof jackets.

Defence Materials and Stores Research and Development Establishment (DSRDE) has developed a wide range of products for the personal protection of India’s soldiers. Camouflage suits and nets developed by them give full foliage camouflage for summer and snow field camouflage during the winter. Other products include NBC suits to protect them from nuclear, biological and chemical warfare, protective armour; blast protection suits for mine breaching operations; boot antimine infantry for assault operations; ballistic helmets for 13mm blunt trauma and many more, and have been well received by the Indian army.
