Force Gurkha caught testing, G-Wagon inspired

Force Motors Gurkha has been caught testing on the outskirts of Pune. Force Motors launched the passenger vehicles arm in 2011 with launch of the One SUV.The company soon announced a couple of new products to be launched in the next 2-3 years.

The Gurkha is one of them and the other is a MPV based on the older generation Mercedes-Benz Viano van. The Gurkha is also based on an older generation G-Wagen platform wand will resemble largely the same in terms of looks. The Gurkha which is also known as the ultimate Indian offroader is making a comeback after a nearly three year since it was discontinued.

The Gurkha caught testing sported G-wagon inspired round headlamps, the new grille with the Force Motors badge at the centre, bonnet-mounted blinkers, flared wheel arches, sporty roof rails and the trademark snorkel which runs from the bonnet to the roof. Another striking design are the set of new five spoke alloy wheels. The Gurkha will get the similar sloping roof line and will now get fog lamps which are carefully enclosed in the front bumpers.

Engine on the 2013 Gurkha will be carried from the Force One SUV. The 2.2 FM Tech Engine produces 140 Bhp@ 3800rpm and max torque of 321Nm@ 1600 RPM. The engine will be mated to a 4×4 transfer gear box and may sport shift on the fly technology. Features like air-conditioning , comfortable seats, music system and latest gadgetry will be standard.

Gurkha managed to create a niche among off-roaders in India but was plagued by problems like lack of availability leading to long waiting periods and substandard service back up. The new distribution network however may provide the answer to those problems.

The Gurkha will definitely give the Thar decent competition and could be priced in the range of Rs. 5.5-7 lakhs.
