Infiniti gets serious about India, entry by 2012?

Nissan might bring its Infiniti range of luxury cars. The luxury car market in India is among the fastest growing in Asia. Now it has been reported in The Business Line that Japanese automobile major Nissan Motor Company is surveying the Indian market for the launch of its ‘Infiniti’ range of super-luxury cars.

Gilles Normand, Corporate Vice-President — Africa, Middle East and India, Nissan Motor Company as saying that the Infiniti cars for the Indian market would be “obviously CBUs (completely built units),” imported from elsewhere. A decision on its local manufacture would come much later.

Infiniti will have a head start as compared to Lexus which is also studying the Indian market for quite sometime. If all goes well Infiniti may launch the cars in India by 2012. The company will retails cars with a new dealer network.

The Infiniti G Series will compete with the Mercedes C-Class, BMW 3 Series and Audi A4 while the M-series will take on BMW 5 series, E class and yet to be launched A6 and Jaguar XF.

The EX series which are mainly the smaller SUV’s will compete with  Audi Q5 and the new BMW X3 which is expected to hit the roads soon. While the FX series SUV’s will compete with BMW X5, Mercedes M-Class and the Volvo XC90. The top of the line QX series SUV’s will take on the Mercedes GL-class and Toyota Land Cruiser Prado.
