Mahindra have finally launched the automatic gearbox option for the XUV 500 which is available in three variants W8 Front wheel drive (FWD) Automatic, W10 Front wheel drive automatic (FWD) and W10 all wheel drive (AWD).

Sourced from AISIN, Japan the leading global supplier in Automatic transmissions, the new auto box is designed to offer a good driving experience with easy cruising on city roads as well as challenging terrains.

The 6 Speed Automatic transmissions is powered by the same 2.2 litre four cylinder mHawk diesel engine producing 140 bhp @ 3750 rpm and torque of 330nm @ 1600 – 2800 rpm.

The Automatic is a 6 speed torque converter unit with a planetary gear train that allows for better fuel efficiency. With 6 gears the XUV 500 has higher ratios rather than a conventional 5 speed automatic which enables the driveline to deliver the best fuel efficiency.  The AT gear box comes with a “creep function” to aid in slow moving traffic and anual mode is for those spirited drives as it allows the user to manually shift gears and extract the best performance from the vehicle.

The XUV 500 Automatic also comes with AWD in the top spec W8. The AWD ensures that the vehicle torque is suitably distributed between the wheels to provide the best traction on rugged or slippery roads, by sensing the difference in RPM between the front and rear wheels.
