Datsun plans to launch five models in India

Datsun, Nissan’s low-cost brand plans to launch as much as five cars in the country by 2015. Nissan officially announced the launch of the Datsun brand and the cars will start rolling in India by 2013.

Of the five models planned the company will launch at least three small cars and a compact utility vehicle (either SUV or MPV) while the fifth model will most likely be a compact sedan.

Under the Datsun brand Nissan will launch a car which will take on India’s highest selling car Maruti Alto priced Rs. 2.3 lakhs for the base model. Other 2 compact cars could be in the Hyundai i10 and Chevrolet Beat category.

With the interest in SUVs increasing Nissan may launch a mini SUV or a MUV which could be priced close to Premier Rio range. The fifth product a compact sedan could help the brand address a slightly premium customer and will definitely be targeted against the Maruti Dzire buyers.

The Datsun brand will play an important part in “Nissan Power 88,” a comprehensive, six-year business plan that will accelerate the company’s growth across new markets and segments.

Datsun will be a global brand that meets local needs. Nissan will tap its global expertise, taking the best of its extensive engineering and innovative design capabilities, and apply them in tailoring Datsun vehicles to local market conditions.
