Fiat to launch small car in India by 2011-end or early 2012.
The small car is likely to be priced in the Rs. 3-3.5 lakh bracket. Features such as safety, storage, emission control, entertainment and high performance may also be borrowed from the 500, which is sold as a completely built unit in India. With a price-tag of nearly Rs. 15 lakh the two door Fiat 500 has sold 64 units since its launch in 2008.
Fiat now plans to get in the lower segment of small cars and now plans head on with Maruti and Hyundai. Most car makers are now launching new products in the small car segment. Hyundai also plans to launch a 800cc car by 2012 in the Indian market.
Maruti will launch the new and updated Wagon R in April and the Alto will also follow.
