Honda Cars India sells 2012 units in April 2011 amidst production

Honda cars India reported lower sales mainly due to production constraints the company is facing as due to short supply of parts. Honda still managed to sell 1,542 units of the City, 112 units of the Jazz, 253 units of the Civic and 83 units of the Accord. The Honda CR-V sold 22 units.

Honda Siel Cars India (HSCI), leading manufacturer of premium cars in India reported sales of 2,012 units during the month of April 2011 as against 3,578 units sold during the corresponding month last year.

Commenting on the company’s sales volumes Mr. Jnaneswar Sen, Sr. Vice President, Sales & Marketing said, “As announced earlier, the Japan issue prompted us to reduce production at our Greater Noida plant to 50% from this month. However, production adjustments for a smooth transition began from mid April. Further, to ensure continuity of supplies to our customers in the forthcoming months, we have moderated our wholesale despatches. We are hoping that supplies will normalise post July and we would be able to catch up on the lost volumes.”

The company’s product range includes Honda Jazz, Honda City, Honda Civic and Honda Accord which are produced at the Greater Noida facility with an indigenization level of 77%, 76%, 74% and 28% respectively. The CR-V is imported from Japan as Completely Built Units.

Honda Jazz is the company’s first offering in the premium compact car segment. The Jazz is a segment-defining car that has won accolades and adoration all over the world. Honda’s all-new Third Generation Honda City was launched in September 2008. It comes with a completely new design, new engine, spacious cabin and equipped with various active and passive safety features.

The new Honda City achieved milestone sales with 50,000 units sold within one year of its launch.

HSCI launched the1.8 S Civic in India in July 2006. The company launched the Sportier and More Aggressive New Honda Civic in September 2009. Honda launched a refreshed version of the 3rd generation CR-V in November 2009.
