Mercedes Benz targets city bus segment

Mercedes Benz India, which ventured into the long distance luxury bus segment, will soon get into the city bus market.

Currently the intercity bus segment is dominated by Tata Macropolo low floor buses, followed by Ashok Leyland and Volvo. The intercity bus segment is growing with more people seeking to travel in luxury buses and this has got a major boost with the JNNURM  scheme.

Mercedes Benz will be competing with Volvo that has made inroads into the city transport segment with its air conditioned buses.

In India, Mercedes Benz sells two and three axle luxury coaches. The two axle is priced at Rs.74 lakh and the three axle is Rs.92 lakh. The intercity buses are expected to be priced competitively.
