New Hyundai Elantra caught testing in India

The Elantra is all set to make its comeback into the Indian market after a gap of nearly four years. When launched the Elantra did good sales numbers, thanks to the diesel variant.

Hyundai did not launch the 4th gen Elantra and concentrated on the hatchback segment by launching the new i10 and i20.

After making its position strong in the small car segment, Hyundai is looking at the big sedan segment.

The Elantra has been caught testing in India, and the all new 5th gen Elantra will make its debut in India at the 2012 Auto Expo. To be assembled at Hyundai’s facility in Sriperumbudur, it will be powered by a 1.8-litre, 146 bhp petrol and a 2.0-litre common rail diesel with 138 bhp engines. Hyundai may even plonk the 1.6 pot with a higher power tune. A six-speed manual and six-speed auto are most likely to be offered with the Elantra.

The new Elantra borrows the fluidic design concept and resembles the recently launched new Verna.

The new Elantra wwill compete with Honda’s Civic, Chevrolet Cruze, Volkswagen Jetta, Renault’s Fluence and the Skoda Laura.

Expect some aggressive pricing from Hyundai to steal the show.
