Polo GTI will be sold in limited numbers.
Hatchbacks come in all different sizes, there are budget hatchbacks, premium hatchbacks, large hatchbacks, Cross hatchbacks and now even Sporty hatchbacks.
After seeing good response for the Polo GT, Volkswagen has gone ahead and given us the even more hardcore Polo GTI .
Speak about the design and the looks of the car and the visual changes that differentiate the GTI from the regular Polo include a black honeycomb grille with Red and chrome strip running lower down, LED headlamps with daytime running lamps. The bumper gets a sporty design with a large air dam and rectangular fog lamps.
At the side the first thing you will notice is the missing door handles to open the rear doors, which reminds you that this is a 3 door and not a 5 door, while the front door is now larger and opens wider than the regular stock Polo.
The rear end you get a roof spoiler, full LED taillamps and dual exhausts with diffuser.
The sporty treatment continues on the inside as well with an all black treatment for the entire interior including dash, paired with chrome inserts and glossy black treatment for the centre console.
The Polo GTI also gets contrast stitching for the steering wheel, gearbox console, and armrest. The bucket type front seats offer great comfort especially with the Golf inspired fabric, while aluminium pedals accentuate the sporty drive.
Equipment on offer on the GTI include LED headlamps, 17 inch Alloy wheels with disc brakes all round, Red brake callipers, Automatic climate control, Automatic rain sensing wipers, 7 inch Touchscreen Multimedia AVN system with Bluetooth, steering mounted controls and SMS readout, Power steering, Anti pinch windows for all 4 doors, rear defogger, rear parking sensor, multi function instrument cluster and leather wrapped steering wheel.
Power for this hot hatch comes from a 1.8 litre four cylinder TSI engine producing a staggering 189 bhp and 320 nm of torque, mated to a 7 speed DSG gearbox enough to do 0 – 100 in a whopping 7 seconds flat and has a top speed of 236 kmph.
The Polo GTI also gets ABS, ESP and hill hold assist function as standard safety features.
Volkswagen has given India a taste of a real hot hatch with the introduction of the GTI, however all the fun comes at a price tag of Rs. 25 lakhs and will be limited to just 99 units and in 3 door guise only.
