Mahindra to roll out global SUV by 2011

Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) will roll out a global sports utility vehicle in 2011 from its Chakan plant near Pune.

M&M is investing Rs. 5,000 crore in the plant having an installed capacity of 300,000 vehicles. At the inauguration of Mahindra’s new plant at Chakan, Dr. Pawan Goenka let out the news that the company is working on a brand new SUV codenamed W201. The SUV will be the first M&M vehicle to be manufactured with a monocoque construction and will cater to Indian as well as foreign markets.

At a price tage north of Rs. 10 lakhs, the W201 will also be a good option for Scorpio owners to scale up to. Expect the biggie to enter the market in the closing months of 2010 or in early 2011. M&M is considering US as its major export market for the W201. Powered by the proven mHawk engine the SUV will be available in manual and automatic transmission.
